Description
The Région de L'Érable invites you to discover its territory thanks to three certified circuits that are part of Canot Kayak Québec's La route bleue network.
Whether you're a canoeist, kayaker or paddleboarder, these routes are the perfect way to explore the world of the Rivière Bécancour, Lac William or Lac Joseph in complete safety. Sail at your own pace on any of the three courses.
Boucle du lac Joseph
This beginner's level route, located in calm water, is a 16.9 km loop. It offers paddlers a diversity of landscapes and experiences. It starts at the Lac Joseph boat launch (see Google Maps) and rest areas are available along the way.
Tour du lac William
This 14.8 km beginner-level loop explores Lac William and its environment nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. It starts at the Lac William boat launch (see Google Maps). Visitors can take advantage of the lookout at the Marina de Saint-Ferdinand, which offers a program of activities throughout the summer, as well as several nearby restaurants.
Chutes Rouges at Lyster
Route A (8.3 km - beginner level) offers a linear route down several whitewaters and a class R-I rapid. It starts at Camping Tropical (see Google Maps) downstream of the Sault Rouge and ends at the Lyster boat launch.
Alternatively, due to weak currents, route B (6.8 km - beginner level) allows a round trip from the Lyster municipal boat launch (see Google Maps), offering a calm and very pleasant experience with several islands along the way. Although these islands are privately owned, they offer magnificent views over the course.
"Les parcours de la Bécancour": paddling between history and nature
Along the way, paddlers will have the chance to discover fascinating educational panels installed at various locations. Among other things, they'll learn about the historic use of the Bécancour River by the first settlers, the aboriginal occupation of the territory, Abenaki canoes, and the river's birds and fish.
